Underwear for the postpartum weeks

The weeks after birth are slow, repetitive, and full of laundry. Clothes need to sit softly without digging into tender spots. We cut our maternity high-waist pairs with extra room through the waist and seat for exactly those days.

How the maternity cut sits

Our maternity high-waist brief is cut taller than our standard high-waist pair. The waistband rests well above the lower belly, which helps keep the seam off sensitive skin. We widen the back panel so the seat stays covered when you sit, recline, or nurse in bed.

The bamboo viscose jersey has enough stretch to give without squeezing. Nothing binds at the leg opening. It feels like plain cloth against tired skin.

Choosing the Absorbent line

We build two lines in the workshop, but the Absorbent line is the one we point people to for postpartum days. It has our wider built-in lined core running from front to back. The Leakproof line has a smaller gusset meant for light flow or backup, which is usually too narrow for these early weeks.

If you have questions about how heavy your bleeding ought to be or what symptoms mean, ask your midwife or doctor. We only know how to sew the gussets.

Packing for the early days

Toss three or four pairs into your hospital bag so you have fresh ones on hand without hunting through luggage. Choose your pre-pregnancy size or go up one size if you prefer a looser waist. Cold water washing and line drying keep the fabric in good shape for the whole fourth trimester.

Pairs that fit this note

Give yourself time and wear clothes that ask nothing of you. A wide seat, a tall rise, and soft jersey help you get through long days on the sofa.
